Standard Technique
- Creating Swing
The last step of every figure/bar is the first step of the next swing. Slow up on step two of each swing to delay taking the last step. The last step is used to initiate the next swing. Practice simple choreography stopping on the first quick in Foxtrot and count two in Waltz in each bar. - Shoulder blade exercise
Without a partner, project each arm forward alternately using the shoulder blade to drive each arm forward. Use this shoulder blade action in promenade position and any other position which should have strong side projection. - Keep forward side up in PP
Latin Technique
- Toe Turned Out to initiate turns: Spot Turns, Alemanas, and all Forward Walk Turning actions, like Hand to Hands.
- The most extreme turn out in the forward foot is on checking actions like the New York.
- Turn the torso first, then the base. Example: Hand to Hands
- Turn the head sharply and rhythmically. Head exercise: Turn the head sharply to the right, straight, left, straight, etc. on counts 2,4,2, 4, etc. Use this head action on New Yorks.
- Back out of each New York into the transition side step.
- Watch the 2013 Japan Open Latin Pro Final on Youtube. The couples are each introduced separately with thirty seconds of a set, basics Cha Cha routine.
