Technique
- In all dances, it is not about the steps. It is about EXECUTION and REACTIVITY.
- Every figure has sway on steps two and three.
- If the sway is to the follower’s right, her head can turn to the right as long as a) it is generated from both partners’ base and transmitted through the spine and frame, and b) her head turns right without moving to the right to the wrong side of the dance position.
- Two types of rise
- Rise to stop (for closing actions in Waltz)
- Rise to project the movement (Foxtrot). Raising heels does not mean going up on the toes.
- The important leg is the supporting leg, not the stepping leg. Continue moving the supporting knee forward as long as possible on every step, whether moving forward or backward.
