Lathrop HS Ballroom Dance Team
Tonight we had a performance from a visiting high school formation team. The Lathrop High School Ballroom Dance Team is from Fairbanks, Alaska. It is made up of 8th – 12th grade students and is the only high school performing ballroom group in the state. Head director, Stefani Borrego, is an alumnus of the prestigious Brigham Young University Ballroom Dance Touring Team and started the group as a swing club in 2001. Professional local and “lower 48” choreographers are brought in every year to create wonderful dances and work with the team. The team travels every other year to the lower 48 for competitions and performance tours.
The group was very entertaining and did several different types of dances – Cha Cha, Night Club Two Step, Lindy Hop, Waltz, West Coast Swing, Salsa, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, and Theatre Arts pieces. They tackled and executed some challenging choreography and some daunting lifts and exhibited great showmanship.
